The Golden Rain News, often referred to as The News, is a weekly community newspaper published by the Golden Rain Foundation and delivered to each unit in the community, LW clubhouses, LW Library and offices. The newspaper highlights community news, club meetings, GRF Board agendas and minutes, and special events that occur in the community.
The News is distributed to local businesses, financial institutions, real estate offices and healthcare facilities. It is also delivered to senior centers in Seal Beach, Long Beach, Los Alamitos, Westminster and Cypress. Current and back issues are available on this website. Paid mail subscriptions are also available.
Residents who have not received the newspaper by 9 a.m., Thursday, may call the News Office between 9-10 a.m., Thursday only, to have a newspaper delivered to their apartments. Additional copies are available at the News Office, Administration Building, clubhouses and Health Care Center. Current and recent back issues of The News are available at The News Office.
The News operates in accordance with GRF policies and publishes many notices of GRF and Mutual Corporation activities. Much of the information in The News is submitted by residents or LW organizations. Consideration for publication is based on current GRF policies and anticipated reader interest. A professional staff edits contributions for grammar, clarity and brevity, as well as journalistic style. Residents may submit typed articles about club meetings, birthdays, anniversaries, trips and other subjects appropriate for publication.
Letters to the Editor are considered in accordance with GRF policy. They should be typed, must not exceed 250 words and include the writer’s full first and last names, Mutual number and phone number. Only the name and mutual number will be published.
The deadline for news contributions is 4 p.m., Thursday, one week prior to publication.
Information about how to submit news articles is available at The News Office. Press releases may be e-mailed (preferred) to the appropriate person as listed in the staff box on page 4 of every issue. They may also be delivered in person, placed in any white GRF drop box or mailed to PO Box 2338, Seal Beach, CA, 90740.
In addition to the weekly newspaper the Golden Rain News also produces the annual telephone directory of community shareholders/residents, and the Navigator book, plus an occasional Services and Facilities Directory and minibus schedule.
Classified and display advertisements inform the shareholders/residents of buying opportunities. The deadline for classified advertising is 2:30 p.m., Monday, for Thursday’s publication. Classified ads must be paid in advance and are not accepted by phone. The display advertising deadline is noon, Friday, prior to publication.
Advertising revenue in all these publications fund the operation of the Golden Rain News. The objective is for the operation of the News Department to be no cost to the shareholders/residents. The Managing Editor of the News reports to the Executive Director and consults with the Publications Committee.
