Holy Family Church Holy Family Catholic Church will celebrate 11th Sunday in Ordinary Time this week.

The first reading is Zechariah 12:10-11; 13:1; the responsorial psalms are 63:2, 3-4, 5-6, 8-9 and the Gospel, Luke 9:18-24.

The church celebrates Sunday Mass at 8 a.m., 10 a.m. and noon.

The Vigil Mass is 5 p.m. on Saturday; and daily Mass begins at 8:30 a.m., Monday-Saturday.

Faith Christian Assembly

Mario Cuomo is quoted as saying, “I talk and talk and talk, and I haven’t taught people in 50 years what my father taught by example in one week.”

This Sunday, June 19, is Father’s Day when Faith Christian Assembly hopes to make it an exceptional day for each dad.

Pastor Gwyn Vaughn will deliver an inspiring message and all fathers in attendance will receive a gift. It is the church’s way to thank them for their the hard work and the vital investment made in their children’s lives.

First Christian

First Christian Church invites everyone to a Bible study session at 9 a.m. on Sunday for an open discussion class. All are welcome. Elder Jack Frost will discuss the book of Acts.

The hospitality room will be open from 9:30-10:30 for fellowship and light refreshments.

Pastor Bruce Humes will start worship service at 10:15 a.m. with Scripture, praise and prayer. Next Margaret Humes will lead the congregation in hymns of worship.

In honor of Father’s Day, the choir will sing “Faith of Our Fathers,” under the direction of Anita Ragole.

Father’s Day, is always a special day for Leisure World Baptist Church.

St. Theodore Episcopal

St. Theodore of Canterbury Episcopal Church will celebrate the fifth Sunday after Pentecost at the Sunday service on June 19. The Rev. Mark Shier will be the Celebrant for Holy Communion.

During the June 5 service, Rev. Karen Maurer discussed the mission of Beach Cities Interfaith Services (BCIS).

Rev. Maurer is executive director of BCIS and an associate priest at St. Wilfred of York Episcopal Church in Huntington Beach.

BCIS was established to provide assistance to those in need. It is a 501 (c)(3) organization composed of diverse groups that coordinate financial and human resources to assist people in need or transition.

Its purpose is to provide care, compassion, food, clothing and other assistance to help people meet their daily needs and to prepare for a stable life.

BCIS provides intake and referral services to public and private social-service benefit programs. It is an interfaith organization since the board includes members from Jewish, Catholic and Protestant faiths.

Assembly of God

Pastor John Heide of Assembly of God Church will begin a series of messages on Sunday titled, “What’s Ahead for America?

Members will share how God spoke to other nations in the past and where America is in prophecy. The church’s emphasis on prayer continues through the summer and how it can change the course of a nation.

Community Church

Community Church has an active missions team that supports many worthy charities at home and away.

On Wednesday June 22, the team will sponsor a fundraiser at Polly’s Pies in Los Alamitos.

The restaurant will donate 20 percent of all proceeds to Community Church missions. To qualify, patrons must present a fundraiser flyer when they pay their bills.

If breakfast, lunch, or dinner plans include Polly’s Pies, stop by the church office between 9:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m., Monday-Friday, before June 22 to pick up the flyer and help to support the missions projects.

On Sunday, June 19, the congregation will join in celebrating the Chancel Choir. The choir serves the church by singing weekly anthems, hymns and periodic special cantatas. The choir will recess for the summer.

All fathers in the congregation will be recognized on Sunday, Father’s Day.

Congregation Sholom

Congregation Sholom is welcoming guest leaders to many of its services. Everyone is invited to attend and help evaluate the cantors and rabinnical students.

Friday services at 7 p.m. on June 17 will be conducted by lay leaders in the Clubhouse 3 Lobby.

The service will be followed by an Oneg Shabbat.

The Saturday service at 9:30 a.m. on June 18 will be led by Eric Dangott. He is in his second year of rabbinic studies at the Academy of Jewish Religion in Los Angeles. Services will be followed by a potluck Kiddush luncheon and Torah study.

The afternoon short story book club will read and discuss “Lot’s Wife,” at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, June 21, at the home of Mort and Helene Goldberg.

The evening book club will discuss “The Fugu Plan, the untold story of the Japanese and the Jews during World War II” at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 29, at the home of Willard Michlin.
