Wa-Rite Club Danette McCloud presented a follow-up program about vitamins and minerals at the June 17 meeting of the Wa-Rite Club.

Vitamin D seems to be the “vitamin of the day.” Researchers are taking a close look at vitamins and the effects on people’s health.

People over 70 seem to need 800 units of Vitamin aD day. Some feel that doses over 4,000 units could cause kidney and tissue damage.

Senior citizens do not absorb vitamins as well as younger people. Those who live in warm climates with plenty of sun are fortunate to get the best source possible.

They also get Vitamin D from butter, eggs, fish and fortified foods such as milk and cereal.

Vitamin D can also cause some interaction with medicine for blood pressure and heart problems. It plays a key role in the body absorbing calcium for bone density reasons.

Wa-Rite is a support group that provides a forum for learning about excessive weight, healthy eating, and general health issues of aged women.
