Redeemer Lutheran “What Manner of Spirit Are We?” is the title and question that Pastor Gil Moore will ask in this Sunday’s sermon at Redeemer Lutheran Church. He will speak on Luke 9:51-56, which opposes the mindset of many revengeful citizens in light of the Orlando massacre.

The reader will be Judy Norlander, and Beverly Anderson, prayer leader. The choir will sing “Drawn to the Light.” Altar flowers will be provided by Marion Fraide in honor of her daughter, Cynthia Luff, and her nephew, Joey Jananian, for his healing.

The Sunday service begins at 10:30 a.m. with a special Mission Moment presentation.

The coffee hour in the fellowship hall following the service will include the celebration of June birthdays and anniversaries.

Bible class led by Pastor Lynda Elmer meets at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesdays in the fellowship hall. The group is concluding the study of the Book of Job. On June 29, chapters 41-42 will be discussed along with a review of the entire study. The class is open to everyone.

First Christian

First Christian Church welcomes everyone to five Bible study classes during the week including at 9 a.m. Sunday when Elder Jack Frost will teach from the book of Acts.

Fellowship and light refreshments will be available from 9:30-10 a.m. in the hospitality room.

Pastor Bruce Humes will open worship service at 10:15 with scripture, praise and prayer followed by Margaret Humes leading the congregation in hymns.

Anita Ragole will direct the choir in a special rendition of “America The Beautiful.”

Holy Family Catholic Church will celebrate the 13th Sunday in Ordinary Time this week.

The first reading is 1 Kings 19:16B, 19-21; the responsorial psalms are 16:1-2, 5, 7-8, 9-10, 11; the second reading: 2 Galtians, 5:1, 13-18 the Alleluia, 1 Samuel 3:9, John 6:68C and the Gospel, Luke 9:51-62.

The church celebrates Sunday Mass at 8 a.m., 10 a.m. and noon.

The Vigil Mass is 5 p.m. on Saturday; and daily Mass begins at 8:30 a.m., Monday-Saturday.

Table Fellowship

Table Fellowship will meet at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, June 24 at the Mutual10 home of Doris Sandrick, 3110 Seaview Lane, 245-D.

A free soup dinner will be served and fellowship will revolve around the table.

All beliefs and backgrounds are welcome.

The group meets on the second and fourth Fridays of the month for 10 weeks.

Community Church

The Women’s Fellowship of Community Church ended the meeting season on June 7 with a lively event before breaking for the summer. It included an appearance by Gary Anderson as Elvis Presley.

Edgar Hall echoed with hoots, cheers and laughter as Anderson sang and danced his way through the crowd, performing Elvis’ most famous numbers.

Esther and Deborah, the two Women’s Fellowship circle groups, will meet for the last time on Tuesday, June 28, before the summer break. Esther Circle meets at 10:30 a.m. in the Choir Room and Deborah Circle, at 11:30 a.m. in the Fireside Room.

Pastor Don Roe will lead a three-session new member class for those interested in joining the congregation. The classes will be from 11 a.m.-noon on June 23, 30 and July 7 in the Fireside Room.

Topics will be “Christian Faith: A Way of Seeing Life,” “When Does a Fellowship Become a Church?” and “Community Church and its Ministry of Hope.”

Pastor Don Roe continues an ongoing summer book study, “Spirituality and the 12 Steps” based on the book by Richard Rohr, “Breathing Underwater.”

On Sunday, June 26, Pastor Roe will preach the sermon, “All You Need Is Love.” The scripture reference is Mark 10:17-28.

Faith Christian Assembly

Pastor/author Gwyn Vaughn has a passion for the ministry. He does whatever he can to assist people who seek his insight that comes from more than 60 years of ministry.

He was invited to speak to both seasoned and new ministers recently on the theme, “What You Committed Yourself to When You Answered the Call to Ministry.”

The topic was based on Pastor Vaughn’s book entitled, “Answering the Call to Ministry.”

It was an opportunity to be reminded what Scripture reveals about ministry.

Pastor Vaughn has received considerable feedback detailing how blessed those in attendance were by his words.

Beit HaLev, House of the Heart, an egalitarian Jewish congregation in Leisure World, will celebrate a summer Shabbat at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, June 24 in the Clubhouse 1 picnic area.

Beit HaLev, created by Rabbi Levy-Slater, offers a variety of services to LW residents.

St. Theodore

St. Theodore of Canterbury Episcopal Church will celebrate the sixth Sunday after Pentecost at the June 26 service. The Rev. Mark Shier will be the Celebrant for Holy Communion.

Buddha Circle

Members will explore another lesson in Buddhism from Ven. Kusala Bhikshu, an American born monk ordained in the Zen tradition.

Presenting Buddhism in a simple way, he will explore how to suffer less and become happier.

Congregation Sholom

Congregation Sholom has had guest leaders at many services. All are invited to attend Friday and Saturday to help evaluate the Rabbinical students who served recently.

The Friday Oneg Shabbat service at 7 p.m. on June 24 in the Clubhouse 3 Lobby will be conducted by lay leaders. That will be followed by an Oneg Shabbat.

The afternoon short story book club will read and discussing “Lot’s Wife,” at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, June 28, at the home of Mort and Helene Goldberg.

The evening book club will discuss “The Fugu Plan, the untold story of the Japanese and the Jews during World War II” at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 29, at the home of Willard Michlin.
