Guys, Gals Golf

Forty co-ed twosomes turned out on a misty June 15 morning to play in the monthly Guys and Gals tournament at the local course.

The highlight of the day was Rick Lenger’s hole-in-one on the sixth hole.

Paul Alloway-Joyce Birzzell took home closest-to-the-pin prizes on No. 8 and Fujio Norihiro-Bert Thompson were closest on No. 17. Eleven golfers won circle prizes.

Lenger-Gee Gee Kwak won the A flight with a superb 11-under par net score of 43.

Alan Sewell-Mary Ann Moore were two strokes back, followed by Young and Have Lee, 46; and Hak and Susie Kim, 47.

Paul Alloway-Ann Tran won the B flight with a brilliant 13-under-par net score of 41.

They were followed by Bob Gass-Sadie Oh, 45; Ron Pine-Lori Owensby, 46 and co-fourth place finishers Rick Lengenfelter-Patti Smith, Bill Tushar-Liz Meripol, Jim Dickerson-Laura Garcia, Dale Williamson-Mary Grieg and Jae and Sun Lee, 48.

Top honors in the C flight went to Manny Miranda-Betty Regalado with a net 43.

Tied for second at 44 were Bill Lesher-Maggie Howe, Stan Shiroma-Helen Yoon and Youn and Melinda Lee. Tom Morris-Marilyn Hewitt tied Joe Hammond-Joyce Birzzell for third at 45, followed by John Devlin- Jean Cose, Stan Johnson-Louise Seifert, Tom McCullough-Barbara Bertoldi and Ned and Donna Sprow, 46.

Cribbage Club

Chuck Cutchshaw, Ruth Depuy and Bob Marselle tied for first place with a score of 845 in Cribbage Club play on June 14. Second was Norm Martin, 835; followed by John Loasby, 830; and Patti Smith, 829.

Margaret Smith had six games of 121 and won a consolation prize.

Peggy McKendrick celebrated her birthday by providing cake and cookies.

Alma Zamzow brought candy and the club provided ice cream. McKendrick and Ruth Depuy served.

The club meets at noon Tuesdays in Clubhouse 1.

To be assured of a table, players should arrive promptly at noon. Partners are not required.

Monday Golf

First flight winner Merle McGee outraced the field with a winning score of 54 in Monday Golf play on June 13 at the Baker course.

He also had two birds and was closest to the pin at the 12th hole.

Jim Dickerson was second with a 57 and a bird, followed by Fujio Norihiro and Gary Stivers, tied for third with 62s; Rick Lenger, 63 and a bird, and Bruce Anderson, 66.

Norihiro was closest to the flagstick on the third hole and Stivers had fewest putts, 30.

Sandy Boardman scooped the second flight by shooting a 52, low score of the day.

Tom McCullough and Ed Dragan tied for second place with 60, followed by Bob Munn, 61; and Marvin Ballard, 77 and a birdie.

McCullough had the fewest putts, 31.

The Leisure World Table Tennis Club will hold a tournament against Laguna Woods at approximately 10 a.m. Saturday, June 25, in Clubhouse 6. Members of the 20-person team have been honing their skills, and are prepared to compete at various levels.

The schedule will begin with singles play, followed by a buffet lunch for members of the LW Seal Beach and Laguna Woods members.

Friday Golf

Friday Golf play at the Riverview course stepped up a notch on June 17 when several players came up with some impressive play with plenty of birds and a eagle to back them up.

Tied for first place in the opening first flight with 64s were Jim Dickerson, Bill McKusky and Rick Lenger.

McKusky had three birds, Dickerson one and Lenger made three birds and a eagle in his round. Fujio Norihiro and San Choi had two birds reach.

Ron Jackson was fourth with a 67, followed by Norihiro, 70 and Choi, 71.

Lowell Goltra and Tom McCullough tied for first place in the second flight with identical 67s.

Mike Breen was third with a 70, followed by Marvin Ballard and Ed Dragan, tied at 71 and Mauricio Rivero, 72.

Closest to the pin winners were McKusky at the second hole and Edmund Dragan at No. 9.

Play resumes tomorrow, Friday, at Willowick.
