FALW

Tickets on sale for club’s annual luau, Sept. 3

The Filipino Association of Leisure World (FALW) will hold its annual luau dinner dance from 5-10 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 3 in Clubhouse 2.

The smell of early summer breezes from the Pacific Ocean signals the start of a traditional tropical beach event called the luau. Polynesians, but most of all Hawaiians, always celebrate a very important feast called “aha’aina” (“aha” means gathering and “aina,” meal).

The Islanders believe in celebrating this event with families and friends.

True to the tradition, the FALW has planned food and festivities for this occasion. Dancers representing the exotic hip swinging wahines of Hawaii, Tahiti, Maoris, Marquesas and other Pacific islands will perform. A live band will play favorite ballroom music and food fit for the king of ancient Hawaii will be served buffet-style. A whole roasted pig will be accompanied by fresh salad, fruit and other sweets for dessert.

FALW has two fundraising affairs every year, to raise money for the Leisure World community.

Tickets for this event are now available at $25/person. Guests are limited to 250 to leave space for dancing, which is the heart of the luau. Contact any member of the FALW to obtain tickets or call (323) 854-6209, 493-1409 or 477-5541.
