Harvey, Marjorie Jean

1917-2016

Marjorie Jean Harvey, 98, Mutual 15, originally of Canova, South Dakota, passed away peacefully in her home June 26, 2016.

She is survived by her three children, four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Her husband of 64 years, Harold, predeceased Marjorie by 11 years.

Her family moved to Southern California when she was just 6. They arrived in Long Beach on Oct. 24, 1924. In February 1933 she started school at Long Beach Poly High School, and just a month later, the 6.1 earthquake destroyed much of the campus. She attended classes in tents and bungalows, and graduated in 1936.

She then went on to Long Beach City College and graduated with an AA degree in June 1938.

She met Harold in 1939 and they were married after a short engagement on March 31, 1941.

She worked for a short time at Walker’s Department Store and then Douglas Aircraft Company while Harold went overseas for World War II.

Upon Harold’s discharge from the Army in 1945, he and Marjorie began to build their family. Son Robert was born in 1946 and daughters Marilyn in 1949 and Janice in 1953.

While Harold owned and operated his own butcher shop, Marjorie was the best mother and homemaker her husband and three kids could ever hope for.

They later moved to San Marcos in San Diego County where they enjoyed over 20 years of wonderful rural living – traveling and making hundreds of new friends.

They moved to Leisure World in Seal Beach in 2000 where she lived until she passed away.

There will be no public viewing. A closed casket service will be held Saturday, July 9, at 11 a.m. at Westminster Memorial Park, Lakeside Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, the family request contributions be made in memory of Marjorie J. Harvey to the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Make tax deductible contribution to Western Shores Chapter, NSDAR, and mail to Marilyn Wolk, 5842 E. Monlaco Road, Long Beach, CA, 90808.
