Community Church Community Church welcomed new members Janet Cord, Elaine Burrows and Doug Zantiny into its family at the July 3 worship service. The church welcomes people from various denominational and faith backgrounds.

Pastor Don Roe will begin another new member class from 11 a.m.-noon on July 14, 21 and 28 in the Fireside Room.

Topics to be explored are “Christian Faith: A Way of Seeing Life,” “When Does a Fellowship Become a Church?”, and “Community Church and its Ministry of Hope.”

Newcomers will be received into membership at the 9:50 a.m. service on Sunday, July 31.

From 10:30 a.m.-noon, on July 12, Pastor Roe will continue the summer book study titled, “Spirituality and the 12 Steps”, based on the book, “Breathing Underwater” by Richard Rohr.

The class will meet on Tuesdays through Sept. 7 in the Fireside Room.

The book is available for $10 at the church office. This 12-step study is open to everyone. The group can be joined anytime during the series.

On Sunday, July 10, Pastor Roe will preach a sermon titled, “A Cause For Celebration.” The scripture reference is Jeremiah Luke 5:27-39.

Holy Communion will be served. Worship services begin at 9:50 followed by a coffee hour.

Assembly of God

Assembly of God Church will show “Risen”at 6 p.m. on Friday, July 8 in Clubhouse 4 as part of its Summer at the Assembly film series. Later in the month, “Miracles From Heaven,” will be shown, along with several other great Christian films.

First Christian

First Christian Church will hold an Elders meeting at 8 a.m. on Saturday, July 9, followed by a 9 a.m. board meeting. All church members are invited to attend the board meeting.

Elder Jack Frost will teach the Bible study at 9 a.m. Sunday. The book of Acts will be under discussion.

Fellowship and light refreshments will be held in the hospitality room from 9:30-10 a.m.

Pastor Bruce Humes opens worship service at 10:15 a.m. with Scripture, praise and prayer followed by Margaret Humes leading the congregation in hymns of worship.

Pastor Phil O’Malley will preside over the communion meditation and service. Pianist Rhonda Sandberg will play “The Family of God” during the offertory.

Pauline Siler will read scripture from Mark 9:33-50. Pastor Gene Cherryholmes will sing “My Tribute” followed by his message for the day “Who Is Greatest?”

Prayer and verse-by-verse Bible studies during the week are held on Tuesdays with Pastor Humes and on Thursdays with Pastor Cherryholmes, both at 9:30 a.m.

Redeemer Lutheran

Pastor Gil Moore of Redeemer Lutheran Church will preach Sunday on the familiar account of the Good Samaritan in Luke 10: 25-37. He hopes the congregation will experience this parable as a personal event when he speaks on the theme “When the Prosecutor Turns Defendant.”

The ushers will be Shirlene Bradrick, Carmen Leslie, Edith Sessa and Maria Swift. Altar flowers will be provided by Bob and Helyn Edwards in honor of their 71st wedding anniversary.

The Sunday service begins at 10:30 a.m. and will include the dedication of food gifts for Orange County residents in need.

A coffee hour will follow the service in the fellowship hall.

Pastor Lynda Elmer’s Bible class will study the First Epistle of John chapters 1-2, 2:1-17 from 10:30-11:30 a.m. on July 13. The class is held on Wednesdays at that time.

The Leisure World Baptist Church will welcome another missionary family to its July Mission Conference at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, July 13, in Clubhouse 4, Section A.

Charley and Miriam Cook work in Chiapas, Mexico, continuing his parents’ service that began over 50 years ago.

The Cooks run a mission that provides food, school supplies and lodging for those in need.

Sunday School this week begins at 8:40 a.m. in Clubhouse 4, followed at 9:45 a.m. with worship services.

Members will sing,”Jesus Shall Reign,” and “I’ve Found a Friend, Wonderful, Wonderful Jesus.”

The choir will present a new arrangement of the hymn, “Redemption Draweth Nigh.” The music will be accompanied by Christine Morell, choir director.

Pastor Rolland Coburn’s message, “How Can God Get Through to Us?” is from his series in Exodus, chapter 6.

The Rev. Lisa Rotchford will be the Celebrant for Holy Communion at St. Theodore Episcopal Church on Sunday July 10, the eighth Sunday after Pentecost.

Her homily topic will be ‘The Call of Love: The Greatest Commandment.”

Table Fellowship

Table Fellowship will meet at 5:30 p.m. tomorrow, Friday, at the Mutual 10 home of Doris Sandrick, 3110 Seaview Lane, No. 245. A free soup dinner will be served and fellowship will revolve around the table.

Holy Family Catholic Church will celebrate 14th Sunday in Ordinary Time this week.

The first reading is 1 Deuteronomy 30:10-14; the responsorial psalms are 69:14, 17, 30-31, 33-34, 36, 37; the second reading: 2 Colossians 1:15-20; the Alleluia,John 6:63C, 68C and the Gospel, 1 Luke 10:25-37.

Congregation Sholom

Friday night services at Congregation Sholom on July 8 will be conducted by student Rabbi Karen Isenberg at 7 p.m. in the Clubhouse 3 Lobby. It will be followed by an Oneg Shabbat in Clubhouse 3, Room 9. It will be a good opportunity to share ideas about how much English should be used in services, and what program activities members want.

On Saturday July 8, 9:30 a.m. services will again be led by Isenberg, followed by a (dairy/vegetarian potluck) Kiddush luncheon and Torah study.

The afternoon short story book club will meet at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, July 19 at the home of Mort and Helene Goldberg.
