Travel Holy Family Church Parishioners experienced beauty, culture in Mexico
A group from Holy Family Parish departed June 8 on a pilgrimage to Our Lady of Guadalupe Shrine in Mexico.
Gloria Arganda found the people were “very stylish, like the people in magazines.”
Rosa Carrillo’s favorite sites were Teypeyac Hill, the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe and the Cristo Rey Shrine in Cerro del Cubilete.
Fr. Jim Hartnett loved the first hill of apparitions at Teypeyac Hill and the small Chapel there with the cemetery and gardens.
Bob Lindl liked the boat ride at Xochimilco. “It was like riding in a hollowed out log. It was hard work for one young man to move the boat with a pole,” he said. He enjoyed the boats bumping into each other and the Mariachis’ singing La Negra.
For Maria Mendoza it was a dream come true to see Our Lady of Guadalupe Basilica and the Cristo Rey Shrine.
Kathie Paradis was exhilarated by the trip. “My neighbors say I look relaxed and joyful,” she said.
Mercedes Shores liked spending a whole day at the basilica. There is so much to see. She enjoyed the shopping at Artisana Plaza, San Juan and liked the beautiful Talervera pottery from Puebla.
The group returned June 14 exhausted, excited and filled with faith and hope. The travelers experienced the beauty of the culture, art, music, and architecture of the country to the south.
St. Jude Support
San Manuel trip planned for bingo
The St. Jude Support Group will sponsor a day-trip to San Manuel Bingo and Casino in Highland on Tuesday, Aug. 9. All LWers and their guests are invited.
The cost of the trip is $15 and includes $10 back from the casino for food or gaming. The bus will leave from Clubhouse 4 at 9:30 a.m. Call Aileen Ackerman, 493-6774.
