Letters to the Editor

Editor:

Several weeks ago (The News, June 23) there was a request to have shareholders/members write articles regarding the good things about Seal Beach Leisure World. For me, one of the greatest things is having Ruben Gonzales, the service maintenance manager, employed here.

Part of the story started a couple of years ago when my neighbor had a leaking refrigerator. The neighbor called the director and was told that it would take a couple of weeks before he would receive a new refrigerator. The neighbor then talked to me about it and I called Mr. Gonzalez, who came the very next day to inspect the problem and my neighbor got the new refrigerator installed.

Then the last time I had to have something repaired in my unit, a service maintenance employee came and fixed the trouble. The employee asked if I needed anything else fixed. I thanked him very much for asking.

The employee stated that Mr. Gonzalez trained the personnel that way: “Mr. Gonzalez told us that the residents are the employer and we are their employees.”

Now this is not only a representative of good employee work but are also acts of kindness on Mr. Gonzalez’s part to all of us living here.

The members of the American Legion and American Legion Auxiliary thank to the Golden Rain Foundation for sponsoring the collection of the school supplies and food items for veterans and their families. Our friends and neighbors were very generous.

The school supplies were gratefully accepted on behalf of the Seal Beach Lincoln Military Housing and Golden West College for student veterans.

The food items were appreciated at the Veteran Hospital pantry, the PIER Center for homeless vets, and Patriots and Paws. A portion was also sent to the vets attending Golden West College. Our thanks to the American Legion men and women for their hours of work collecting, sorting, dividing, and delivering the items.
