Registration begins Aug. 16 for fall session of senior tours

The Long Beach City College, Pacific Coast Campus, offers trips and tours for seniors 50-plus. The fall session runs from Sept. 1-Dec. 6. The cost, per person, includes bus charge, entry fee and any extra charges that apply to that tour. Meals are included only if noted.

All tours depart from the Liberal Arts Campus, Building O-2, near the southwest corner of Conant Street and Clark Avenue. Departure times vary. A person may purchase a maximum of two tickets per tour.

Walk-in registration is from 8 a.m.-noon on Tuesday and Wednesday, Aug. 16-17, at the PCC campus, 1305 E. Pacific Coast Highway, Room FF-108, Long Beach. A maximum of two tickets per tour may be purchased at walk-up registration.

Telephone and mail-in registration begin at 8:30 a.m. on Aug. 18. Mailed-in registration is completed after all telephone calls are completed. Call 938-3048 and leave a message including the tours desired, name and phone number, so organizers can return the calls with in the next week to confirm choices and get payment information.

Visa, Mastercard and Discover credit cards are now accepted for registration fees.

• Sept. 1, New Contemporary Broad Museum, $49. This repeat of a sellout tour is to Los Angeles’ center for contemporary art with over 2,000 works of postwar art. Lunch is on-your-own at Phillipe’s after the museum.

•Sept. 22, A Taste of Route 66 with Curtis Tucker, $93. Another repeat of a sell-out tour takes participants on a drive along the “Mother Road” from Glendora to Los Angeles stopping at mom and pop shops along the way. Lunch at Northwoods Inn is included.

•Sept. 15, The Museum of Neon Art’s “Neon Cruise,” $93. This three-hour night cruise travels through the streets of downtown L.A., Hollywood and Wilshire Boulevard aboard a double decker bus with guide Eric Lynxweiller explaining the history of neon and L.A. It is fun, quirky and informative.

• Sept. 22, Palm Springs Windmill Tour, $69. Learn why the windmills along Interstate 10 near Palm Springs were built, why the wind blows the way it does through the pass and about the weather and geology of the area. A box lunch is included.

• Sept. 29, Tasty, Tempting Taco Tour with Curtis Tucker, $95. East LA has been “the place to go” for taco-crazed Angelinos for decades with its neighborhoods full of colorful history, energy, murals and great food. Learn about the history of the area and about tacos.

• Oct. 4, “Beautiful: The Carole King Musical” at the Segerstrom Center for the Performing Arts, $83. This Tony Award winner is about King’s rise to stardom and includes a selection of her hits.

• Oct. 11, Jet Propulsion Laboratory with Tucker Tours, $95. The 2-1/2-hour tour includes a multimedia presentation entitled “Journey to the Planets and Beyond,” which provides an overview of the Laboratory’s activities and accomplishments. A government issued ID is required for entry. Lunch is include at Tam O’Shanter.

• Oct. 13, Cereal Baron W.K. Kellogg’s Estate Tour and Tour of the Arabian Horse Center at Cal Poly Pomona, $74. See cereal magnate W.K. Kellogg’s spacious ranch-style home originally built in 1925 for his Arabian horse ranch and winter home. The 14-room mansion and gardens have been meticulously restored to their original splendor. A buffet lunch at the campus’ Kellogg West restaurant is included, followed by a tour of their state-of-the-art Equestrian Center.

• Oct. 20, Long Beach Landmarks from Contemporary to Victorian, $49. Visit the Museum of Latin American Art (MoLAA), the only museum in the U.S. dedicated to modern and contemporary Latin American art and the historic Bembridge House, a 1906 Queen Anne Classic Victorian on the National Register of Historic Places. Lunch is on-your-own at Shoreline Village.

• Nov. 3, The Huntington Library in San Marino, $59. Visit the new Jonathan and Karin Fielding Wing highlighting 18th and early 19th century American art with more than 200 paintings, furniture pieces and decorative works. Lunch is on-your-own at the museum.

• Nov. 10, Planes of Fame Air Museum in Chino, $59. See more than 150 aircraft from the Chanute Hang Glider of 1896 and a replica of the Wright flyer to planes of the space age. Many of the aircraft displayed are the last surviving examples of their type left in the world. Lunch is on-your-own at Chino Spectrum Marketplace.

• Nov. 16, Three Neighborhoods and a Funeral with Curtis Tucker, $89. Learn about the neighborhoods and the “eats” in Pasadena, Eagle Rock and Glendale and then visit Forest Lawn in Glendale with its world-renowned art museum, statuary and beautiful stained glass. Lunch is on-your-own at Glendale’s Americana at Brand Center.

• Nov. 29, “A Christmas Carol” at South Coast Repertory Company, $78. This is the 36th annual production of the beloved Christmas classic by SCR.

• Dec. 6, The Christmas House Holiday Tea and Rancho Cucamonga Lights, $79. The Christmas House Inn and Gardens is a 1904 three-story Victorian mansion, filled with architectural distinction and named for the lavish Christmas parties that were given there. Christmas Tea includes finger sandwiches, fresh scones, figgy pudding with cognac sauce, and other desserts.

The LBCC Senior Center is a relaxed, outgoing group of seniors and encourages all seniors to join.

Parking, $2 per day, is available on the west side of the Building O-2. Parking permits are available at registration.

Public transportation to Long Beach City College, Liberal Arts Campus, Conant and Clark—take OCTA Bus 60 to Cal State, Long Beach; transfer to LBT 93 (Clark to Alondra) at the southwest corner of Channel and 7th Street, get off at Clark Avenue and Conant Street, cross Clark Avenue walk past Rosie the Riveter Park to Building O-2, near the southwest corner of Clark Avenue and Conant Street.

Casino day-trip departs Aug. 10

The New York Club will escort a day-trip to Pauma Casino on Aug. 10.

The cost of the trip is $15, with $10 cash returned in the machine.

During the trip, bingo is played coming and going and snacks are served.

The bus picks up at three locations, Clubhouse 4, 7:15 a.m.; Amphitheater, 7:30; and outside St. Andrew’s Gate, 7:35.
